100 level student commits suicide in FUTO

A 18-year-old, Daniel Uchenna Nwafor of the Department of Chemistry at Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Imo State has been reported to have committed suicide in his lodge. The first year student of FUTO took his own life as his lifeless body was found hanging on a rope in his lodge at Umuchima in the Ihiagwa area of Owerri, the state capital.

Nwafor whose report of death broke out on Tuesday, is said to have been in pains and unhappy. He eventually committed suicide two days after his mother who stayed with him in the lodge for few days left. Uche Nwaelue who is the spokesperson of the school confirmed the incident but expresses shock over what could have led the young man to commit suicide.

He said, “Somebody brought the picture to me though I have not visited the scene but I wonder why an 18-year-old person would take his life.” Similarly, Orlando Ikeokwu who is the police spokesman confirmed the incident, adding that the remains of the deceased has been moved to the mortuary.

He said, “I can confirm the report to be true. It happened and the body has been taken to the mortuary.” The 100 level student is said to have dropped a written note for the mother and the police is said to have picked it as an exhibit.
