18 year old Zimbabwean wins The Voice UK 2020

18-year-old Zimbabwean from Duddley, Blessing Chitapa, was crowned the winner of The Voice UK 2020 after a gruesome 12 months of recording the show.

“It feels amazing, it feels overwhelming,” said an emotional Blessing.

Blessing’s start was not a rosy one. She almost had no judge turn for her in the first round of the competition. But to her fortune, judge Olly Murs gave her chance and pressed his button.

Soon after going through to the next round, she killed each and every performance until becoming a fan favourite.

“I’m just so happy I pressed my button for you Blessing. You’re just a phenomenal talent and even I’m getting emotional hereafter that performance,” said Olly after the final show.

Even more phenomenal was the fact that Blessing’s studies were running concurrently with the show. “During rehearsals and behind the stage, I had my laptop on me trying to stay tuned to Biology. It was just me trying to balance everything,” she said.

Blessing never imagined that she would ever win the competition. Her race, background and age had her at odds. She is however grateful for the opportunity to make her parents and community proud of her.

Chitapa has released a single, Angel, and will be signing a much-anticipated record deal.
