The first Angolan action film to play on Netflix hit the number one spot in the world for 5 consecutive days. According to Netflix, the film trended in 33 countries including Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil and France.
“This took us by surprise,” said director Chris Roland. “We are very grateful for the support. This is what the world needs, more action films from Africa,” he added. Santana follows the story of 2 Angolan law enforcement brothers who take down Africa’s most dangerous drug lord. The film was set in Luanda and Cape Town.
It features internationally acclaimed actors David O’Hara, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and local actors Rapulana Seiphemo ,Nompilo Gwala and Neide Viera. While the subtitles may be unsettling for some viewers, the film is packed with lots of riveting action, sex and suspense. Director Chris has promised action lovers that it is “pure entertainment”.
Santana is currently one of the numerous African films that have done well on Netflix such as Queen Sono, The Cook Off Zim and teen film Blood & Water.
