The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has decorated the new Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari last month.
He tasked the new Commandant General to immediately develop a robust scheme for school protection across the country in order to ensure the safety of children everywhere, especially within the school environs, from the incessant attacks by kidnappers and armed men.
At the decoration event, Ogbeni Aregbesola delivered a speech titled, ‘Your Moment To Be A Hero’, he stated that children are a specially protected social category. “They are innocent and at the same time vulnerable. They are as vulnerable to external circumstances as to their own wiles”.
“I am therefore saddened by the spate of violations and kidnappings in our schools. To say it is heart rendering is to say the least. The criminals who engage in these cowardly acts are incapable of comprehending the fine art and the delicate duty of nurturing, protecting and developing competent, healthy and knowledgeable children who are the future of any nation”.
“These cowardly acts are a new low, even among criminals. For the most ferocious beasts by instinct know that the young ones must be protected”.
