Ban: Fashola reacts to Airline’s statement, says it’s ridiculous

By Oluwaseun Sonde

The Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN has to the attempt of the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Jet Services Limited, Dr Sam Iwuajoku, saying it’s ridiculous to link him with the flight operated to Abuja last weekend breeching the COVID-19 regulations.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser, Communications to the Hon. Minister, Hakeem Bello on Tuesday as the attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister was drawn to a letter signed by the Chairman/CEO of the airline  concerning a flight it operated to Abuja last weekend.

For purposes of clarity and in order to set the records straight, the Hon. Minister has not travelled out of Abuja since March 22, 2020, when he returned there after an inspection tour of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway construction work and a visit to Lagos, before the lockdown.

It is therefore ridiculous for Dr Iwuajoku to attempt to link the Hon. Minister with any non compliant flight because decision of the Hon. Minister not to travel was taken in strict compliance with the Federal Government’s ban on inter-state travels as part of efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the CEO of the airline stated that they mistook the Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola for Naira Marley as they apologized for breaching COVID-19 regulations by flying the singer and his colleagues from Lagos to Abuja.
