Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has on Wednesday signed a bill establishing traffic regulatory agency into law. The law, established Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) was propounded to regulate, control and manage transportation. While assenting to the bill, Mohammed said, the Executive Bill was promulgated and passed by the State House of Assembly to sanitise the towns and villages and also provide employment for youths. “It will also deepen our responsibilities and responsiveness.
“Other states like; Kano, Kaduna and Lagos have done it and we are not relenting. Some of the encroachments that we have seen, the conflicts from the ministry of environment to the ministries of land and local governments will be put aside because, definitely matters related to it would be really regulated by the establishment of the Agency,” he said.
The Governor vowed that only competent and credible people would be engaged to man the new agency. “We will ensure that justice and equity is done and when we come to implement it, there would be persuasion. It won’t be just an application of the law, we would carry out sensitisation, our voters would know that we are doing it in the interest of the State.
Mohammed said the BAROTA would kick-start with 200 staff and subsequently be expanded. While presenting the bill, speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman assured Mohammed of the lawmakers’ support on matters affecting the State’s development.
