Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has suspended Caretaker Committee Chairman of Misau local government, Yaro Mohammed Gwaram, over killing of nine people in a communal clash between herdsmen and farmers.
Nine persons have reportedly died in the clash on Monday while scores sustained various injuries. While announcing the suspension on Wednesday, Governor Mohammed said the LGA boss, his vice and secretary have been suspended.
He said that “we have discussed extensively about Misau Local Government where we had clashes and skirmishes between the Fulani herders and farmers which resulted in the loss of nine lives and many injuries. We have met with stakeholders, some cabinet members, his royal Highness the Emir of Misau, district heads, traditional rulers, Miyetti Allah and security agencies to discuss extensively on how to avert the recurrent of the ugly situation.”
Mohammed said the state government is working to curb upsurge of similar incident in other LGAs and how to nip them in bud. He said: “In this particular case, we have decided to suspend the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Misau Local Government along with his deputy and secretary and to appoint an administrator in the person of Alhaji Isah Kufai , a former Chairman of Toro LGA.”
He further stated that the stakeholders have also discussed and taken opinion –legal and administrative to set an investigative panel to be chaired by Air Vice Marshall, Tijjani Gamawa (rtrd) with security agencies, Attorney General of the State, Chairmen house Committee of security and local government and other stakeholders as members to come with a report on the issue.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State Police has said that nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash while investigation was on to unravel the cause of the needless killing. The Police PRO, Ahmed Wakili told Our correspondent that nine casualties were recorded while others injured are receiving treatment.
