BAUCHI State Government said it will auction 100 motorcycles seized as result of State ban on okada at paltry rate of N5,000 back to the owners. The State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Garba Dahiru said this over the weekend. He added that the move was to cushion the economic hardship faced by the owners of the seized motorcycles.
Garba said the motorcycles were seized from violators of the ban on commercial motorcycle operations by the government in the state. According to him, the ban was not meant to impose hardship on the citzen but to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and in compliance to other protocols.
He said that the State mobile court had tried the violators. He however said that, the state government under governor Bala Mohammed has directed that the forfeited motorcycles be auctioned to no other person’s but their original owners. The auctioning exercise would be done after presentation of genuine evidence of ownership of the seized motorcycles.
