Bauchi State to reopen schools October 12

Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aliyu Tilde has on Friday announced that both private and public schools should be reopened on October 12. At a press conference, Tilde said that the schools were about six months ago shutdown to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said having consulted the stakeholders, the government has agreed to return the students to school.

Tilde said that “all primary and secondary schools in the State can start reopening on 12 October, 2020, subject to the compliance of each with COVID-19 regulations on school reopening. “No school shall reopen unless and until it meets the conditions stipulated. So, not all the schools may open on 12 October,” he said.

According to the Ministry’s guidelines, over populated classrooms should be ran in stagger. Primary 1 to 3 to be in school in the morning while primary 4-6 take over afternoon classes. JSS 1-3 for morning and SSS use the facilities in the afternoon. He said that the State will take the responsibility of decontamination of all public schools, parents will provide face masks for their wards, PTA/NGOs/partners will donate infrared temperature devices and hand washing facilities. Tilde said Ministry of Education would provide water.

He tasked the school administrators to collect N200 per child for COVID-19 facilities in schools under SUBEB and private schools.
