There was a drama witnessed in the Senate after Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina and KEMSA chairman Kembi Gitura took on each other over the graft allegations. An agitated Ledama Ole Kina threw serious allegations towards Mr. Kembi which did not go well during his response.
“ Don’t think anyone is foolish here,we know what we are dealing with. We have gone through the documentation. So when we ask you questions regarding direct procurement please answer.” Said Ledama. Ledama went further ahead to accuse KEMSA chairman of receiving Ksh.15million from a company that won a tender to supply PPEs.
He added,“ This is a very emotional issue, don’t give me that smack responds to what I’m asking you. Now the icing on the cake we are aware that KEMSA received fifteen million from a company that won a tender to supply PPEs.” In his response Mr Kembi Gitura said,“ You know it sounds convincing when you make such statements. You should have asked me to produce that email instead of relying on leaked emails. If you are a lawyer which I don’t know and read that email, you would understand the position Iam taking.”
He continued,“ I stand by that email. You can read It and try to twist the content of it but you’ll be wasting everybody’s time. I wrote that letter with my eyes wide open.” However KEMSA chairman Kembi Gitura was warned against lecturing members of the Senate during the grilling and urged to answer questions as directed.
The KEMSA saga attracted the attention of president Uhuru Kenyatta who directed that investigation into the matter be investigated and answers provided over the next 21days. According to the reports, the ministry of health cannot account for 43 billions covid-19 funds.
