An abandoned unidentified corpse which has stayed with Egbeada community in the Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State has become a source of worry to the people.
The residents, on Thursday, appealed to the Imo government to come to their aid in removing the deceased who was reportedly lynched by a mob on January 15, 2021 when luck ran out of his way while trying to snatch a mobile phone from a woman.
The woman was said to have raised an alarm that attracted passersby after being stabbed by the deceased and his gang member. While the gang member escaped, the deceased was said to have been lynched and set ablaze by a mob.
Mrs Angela Obinna, a resident of the area told the media that “the corpse has been here since that day and it now smells. The odour is affecting sales here as our customers no longer feel free to patronise us.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association in Imo, Dr Chidiebere Okwara, has said that the abandoned remains can cause health issues to the residents of the area if left unattended to by the government.
‌He said, “A corpse should not be allowed to lie on the street. We hope that relevant agencies of government will remove it as soon as possible
