Covid-19: Bauchi State gets molecular lab centre

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has on Monday Commissioned the State molecular Laboratory testing center. Bauchi State get the Molecular Laboratory testing center barely four months after the state recorded it’s first index case of the coronavirus pandemic in March 24.

On the establishment of the laboratory, Mohammed said “it was set up under a partnership with Bauchi State Government, North East Development Commission (NEDC) and Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC). “The State provided fundings for the construction of the building, procurement of furniture, power supply and staff while NEDC procured and installed PCL and other machines in addition to two ambulances, personal protective equipment, consumables and other support implement,” he said.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aliyu Maigoro said since March this year, the State has tested 3,459 saying 500 people were confirmed positive out of which 439 had fully recovered and discharged. Maigoro said 49 cases currently undoing treatment.

He said: “The State had recorded a total of 12 deaths (mostly among patients with comorbidity with a Case Fatality Rate of 2.4%. Currently and with increasing community transmission, we are going into community mass testing and contact,” he added
