On Wednesday evening reports shared by a top media house in the country surfaced online that the cabinet secretary of the interior security Fred Matiang’i wanted the Deputy President Ruto to Resign and join opposition. The report stated that Matiangi’s remarks were commented to the Deputy President’s sentiments he made over the past couple of days where he was observed to correct the government and especially on the arrest of three Senators.
He dared, “Rather than subvert government systems and efforts from within, the honourable thing would be for him to resign and openly join the opposition.” He was responding criticism from Deputy President,Ruto, who claimed that police officers were used to threaten, intimidate and blackmail senators to pass the controversial Third Generation Revenue sharing formula.
He added that as the deputy President Ruto should have called Inspector General Hillary Mutymbai or himself to enquire what was going on rather than taking to the media. “The deputy president is guarded by very many police officers yet he,while enjoying state protection, unilaterally condems the police over matters for which he lacks facts,”Matiang’i noted. He explained that the arrest of Senators were based on crimes they were accused of committing.
