Cyber criminals to mislead citizens with fake news – NITDA

The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi has said that Cyber Criminals are not only trying to gain control over our infrastructure, but also to steal personal information, official data & mislead citizens with fake news. Mr Inuwa who was represented by the Director IT Infrastructure Solutions Abdullahi Gambo Usman said this during the information assurance workshop for MDAs organized NITDA in conjunction with the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation (OSGFND) which held at NAF conference center, Abuja today  According to him “the workshop is planned to bring together efforts of all government organisations to combat one of the growing threats to economic, personal and national security globally”. While delivering the opening remarks at the workshop, he noted that “NITDA is using multifaceted approach to address growing cyber security threat”. Speaking on the Agency’s efforts in combating cyber crime, Inuwa said NiTDA has conducted cyber security trainings for Network Administrators in MDAs and Security Agencies. He also urged all participants at the workshop to play their respective roles in order to improve the image of the country and earn the Citizen’s trust. “We all have a shared responsibility to build resilience, trust and confidence into our systems”.   Also speaking at the event is the Director -eGovernance Development and Regulatory Dr Vincent O. Olatunji, He said  “Protection of privacy in digital age is the main challenge today. Businesses and Government want to erode the rigid interest of business profit and security.”
