‘Declare Dogara’s seat vacant or we recall him’ A member and chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Mallam Bibi Dogo has asked the leadership of the House of Representatives to declare Dogara’s seat vacant or they recall him.
Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the immediate past Speaker of the House representing Bogoro, Dass, Tafawa Balewa constituency dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) last Friday. Dogo made the threat while describing Dogara’s action as “political indiscipline” against the people of Bogoro, Dass and Tafawa Balewa who elected him under the platform of PDP were no longer comfortable being “totally eclipsed” in the House.
“They don’t know any convincing reason why he defect to APC, he didn’t consult them before his defection. I hereby call on the Reps leadership to quickly declare Dogara’s seat vacant to enable the constituents to elect a capable replacement,” he said.
He said that the People of the area would set a machinery in motion for Dogara’s recall and that the process would soon commence in earnest because “we will not condone political indiscipline”. He further said that the reasons given by Dogara in his resignation letter were nothing but ‘flimsy excuses’, noting that the money he alleged that Governor Bala Mohammed spent was N3.6billion and not N4.6billion as Dogara claimed. He said that the contract was awarded for the purchase of vehicles of which Dogara is one of the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed’s
Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Lawal Muazu while reacting said Governor Bala Mohammed’s “only crime against the selfish and greedy elites in the state is that he has resolved to put Bauchi State first before any other consideration.
According to him, those who cannot absorb the heat are beginning to go away. “The dirty tradition of dirty Nigerian politics is that selfish politicians always wish to have their ways by having it all to themselves.

”The recent defection by Honourable Yakubu Dogara (Former Speaker of the House of Representatives) is one case of such selfish and unpatriotic move designed to prevent Governor Bala from discharging his sacred mandate to the good people of Bauchi state.”
He said Mohammed has made positive difference from the “clueless and retrogressive” past. “Even the blind can clearly see and feel the difference witnessed by the massive infrastructural built ups and determination to do more in just one year.” Muazu added that Mohammed is fulfilling his promise to conduct Local Government elections by fixing a date (October 2020). “Financial transaction of public funds are done in an open and transparent manner unlike in the past when billions of money were frittered away without any tangible project to show,” he said.
“The former Speaker should seek for other reasons for his decision to return to his old party. Those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others. With the current investigations going on in the National Assembly concerning the NDDC financial scandal, one may be right to say the guilty ones are afraid and the only escape route is to return to the old fold in order to cover up for past misdeeds.”
The APC has promised to respond to all the allegations made by the Governor’s new media Aide later. The Party’s Publicity Secretary told our reporter that he would respond appropriately.
