The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama has said that Federal Government has engaged with the highest level authority in Ghana, the Foreign Minister of Ghana, H.E. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra and also registered a strong condemnation of the attacks which was clearly unjustified.

While responding to questions from Journalists at the Press Conference in Abuja on Monday, over the recent attacks on a residential building in the diplomatic premises in Accra, Ghana, he said it was a clear violation of the principles of the Vienna Convention which regulate the diplomatic relations between countries.

According to him, “we have engaged with the highest level authority in Ghana. Today, the Foreign Minister of Ghana, H.E. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and the officials of the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, Ghana went to the land registry, it appears that there are some people who are claiming legitimate title over the piece of land.

“We have registered a strong condemnation of the attacks which was clearly unjustified. Furthermore, this was a clear violation of the principles of the Vienna Convention which regulate the diplomatic relations between countries. This was a non state actor that was involved; it was not the government and not government sanctioned”, he said.

He further said he received a message from the Ghanaian Foreign Minister that everything will be settled and the Ghanaian President had directed for a very severe action to be taken against those who were responsible for the demolition including immediate arrest and will as well give an official statement.

“We await the official and formal response from the Ghanaian government. It is an evolving story and I will keep the country informed as we go forward and unravel this most unfortunate incident”, he said
