Deputy President Ruto lands in Kisii

Deputy President William Ruto landed in Kisii county on Thursday afternoon to a rapturous welcome from his supporters despite earlier protests by ODM youths.The deputy president condemned the protests saying time for chaos was long gone.He said police should not be used to achieve selfish interests of anybody. He added that security agencies should exercise restraint at all times and allow wananchi to exercise their basic freedoms.

He also termed the ongoing attempts to block him from ascending to presidency as a joke. He said he campaigned for the jubilee party and ensured it secured victory during the last two elections.Earlier in the morning ODM youths and pro-Ruto supporters clashed in Kisii town ahead of DP’s visit.

Tyres were burnt by hired goons causing temporary traffic snarl-ups along the streets.Police had to lob tear gas to disperse the rioters.Deputy President had visited Kisii county as he was attending a function of fundraising for bodaboda riders in Kisii.Despite the hooligans bringing down the tents where the DP was set to hold the fundraises, the function went ahead as planned with large numbers attending.
