South African artist Dj Zinhle, real name Ntobizinhle Jiyane’s single Umlilo hit triple platinum today after selling over 60k units.
The elated Dj announced via her social media platforms and thanked her fans for the support. “Umlilo is now a certified TRIPLE PLATINUM single. Thank you all!” she said over a bottle of Boulevard rose.
Umlilo is a club banger that was released in the summer of 2019 in time for the festive season. It featured newcomer Rethabile Khumalo whose vocals on the song were described as “powerful”. Zinhle was later commended for promoting and growing Rethabile’s career which blew up soon after the release of Umlilo.
The track became a sensation, reaching over 5 million streams in just 3 months. Fans all over Southern Africa played it through the festive season and turned it into an anthem.
To no surprise, Umilo was voted as 2019’s song of the year and Zinhle herself was awarded the “best female DJ in Africa” accolade.
