Edo election: I’ll never encourage violence, says Obaseki

The Edo State Governor and the People Democratic Party PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Godwin Obaseki has said that having committed enough resources to ensure safety of the citizens of Edo state, he will never encourage violence, as it would be irresponsible of him to do anything which would lead to the breakdown of law and order.

The Governor disclosed this while he and other political actors in Edo State were invited to the palace of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II on Wednesday. While condemning the recent attack on Obaseki’s reelection campaign convoy at the palace gate, the highly revered monarch called on them to eschew violence, embrace peace and tolerance ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

On his part, Obaseki assured the royal father that as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, that he have sworn to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and protect the lives and property of Edo people.
