The Boss of Facebook International, Mark Zuckerberg has said that this week’s study from the European Union (EU) showed that Facebook acts faster and removes a greater percent of hate speech on its services than other major internet platforms, including YouTube and Twitter.
He disclosed this on his official social platform recently, he said Facebook has invested heavily in both AI systems and human review teams so that now, its identify almost 90% of the hate speech and remove before anyone even reports it.
According to him, “We’ve also set the standard in our industry by publishing regular transparency reports so people can hold us accountable for progress as Facebook will continue investing in this work and will commit whatever resources are necessary to improve our enforcement.
He added that Facebook believe there is a public interest in allowing a wider range of free expression in people’s posts than in paid ads. “We already restrict certain types of content in ads that we allow in regular posts, but we want to do more to prohibit the kind of divisive and inflammatory language that has been used to sow discord.
“So today we’re prohibiting a wider category of hateful content in ads. Specifically, we’re expanding our ads policy to prohibit claims that people from a specific race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, caste, sexual orientation, gender identity or immigration status are a threat to the physical safety, health or survival of others”, he said.
He noted that Facebook is also expanding its policies to better protect immigrants, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers from ads suggesting these groups are inferior or expressing contempt, dismissal or disgust directed at them.
