FG disturbed over frequent fire outbreak in Nigeria, says Farouq

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has said that the Federal Government is disturbed by the frequent fire outbreaks in Nigeria and appealed to market leaders across the country to ensure maximum safety measures to forestall future occurrences.

In a statement released by the Spokesperson for the Minister, Nneka Ikem Anibeze on Monday, while commiserating with the Sokoto Government and traders of the state over the recent fire incident which gutted the Shagari Modern Market.

The Minister who expressed sadness said the incident was regrettable following the loss of livelihoods. “The fire incident at the Shagari market which left many without a livelihood is very unfortunate.

Minister Umar Farouq has since directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the incident for necessary humanitarian intervention.

The New Market as it is popularly known was razed by fire last Tuesday with traders losing goods worth millions of naira.
