Following the decline in Corona virus infections, there has been speculations on schools reopening. Today while speaking to the press the CS of education George Magoha cited that the School re-opening dates will only be given by relevant authorities once everything has been discussed in the upcoming major stakeholders meeting to be held on 28th of September.
The good news comes as the teachers are ordered to report back to school by Monday to ensure schools are habitable ahead of looming school re-opening. A team of senior education stakeholders has presented a report to CS George Magoha this morning. The committee recommended that the school calendar be revised to allow the year to begin in June instead of the usual January to November cycle.
According to the committee, the first term in the 2021 calendar will start in late May or early June meaning hundreds of thousands of children scheduled to Join early childhood development education classes will be delayed for half an year. However standard eight and form four learners will sit their national exams in April 2021 if the government adopts proposals by a committee appointed by education cabinet secretary.
