Governor Nyesom Wike demolishes hotel for flouting lockdown directive

Governor Nyesom Wike has made bold his threat to demolish hotels in Rivers State, who flout the directive of shutting down. The Governor had in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim threatened to demolish hotels that are still in operation.

Governor Wike who threatened to demolish some hotels in Eleme Local Government Area of the state, has already begun the demolition exercise. Of the hotels already under demolition is Prudent hotel in Alode area of Eleme Local Government Area, as Governor Wike stormed the area with the COVID-19 taskforce to pull down the building as earlier thteatened. Earlier, Governor Wike had promised to reward the sum of 100,000 naira to any whistle blower who gives Intel to the Rivers State COVID-19 Taskforce on hotels still in operation, businesses in operation, people without facemask, etc

The Governor had declared a total lockdown in some parts of the state, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. Meanwhile; hotelers in Rivers State have lamented difficulties faced, trying to obtain permit and submit manifest for the benefit of those on federal government permit to operate.

The hotelers who were reacting to the declaration of the state government to demolish some hotels in Eleme area also urged the State Government to be weary of fake whistle blowers whose aim are to benefit from the 100, 000 thousand naira reward.
