The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, at a press conference held in Makurdi, on Monday, said that if he is assassinated, the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, should be held responsible.

The Benue state governor lamented that it was bad for Mohammed to defend armed herders who have “killed many Nigerians and inflicted pains on several communities across the country.” Ortom said the Bauchi state governor should apologize over his recent comment because Nigerians will be compelled to believe that he is part of the conspiracy to wipe them out.

He called on President Buhari to proscribe such herders group as any law abiding citizen of Nigeria is allowed to come and live or do businesses freely in Benue State.

Though, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA), Media to the Governor of Bauchi State, Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, refused to comment on the matter when contacted, a senior government official revealed that after getting the details of what the Benue governor said, an official response will be provided. The Bauchi state governor was reported to had blamed Ortom, last week, for his “lack of foresight” and wrong perception of the Fulani herdsmen.
