Hoodlums attack Bauchi NUJ Secretariat, disrupt briefing

Hoodlums on Thursday morning attacked the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council while insisting that an ongoing press conference must not be held.

The Thugs trooped into the Press Centre at about 10:40 a.m while some ‘Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’ were addressing journalists. The leader of the group was introducing his colleagues when the thugs bashed in and disrupted the coverage. They were seen dragging cameras from journalists while others were hurling chairs at the attendees. This led to injuring two of the journalists in attendance.

Media Bypass learnt that the concerned APC members wanted the State Working Committee dissolved. A source said that the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Uba Nana has been appointed as a chairman governing council of a university in the North while some members have compiled allegations against him. One of the aggrieved members alleged that Uba Nana must have sent the thugs to attack them to cover up.

Alhaji Ua Nana while reacting said he has no knowledge of the incident as the Chairman of the party but promised to react properly later in the day. It to the efforts of the Police to calm the situation while the leadership of the Union has promised to issue a statement about the safety of the members.
