Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has said that appointing three female commissioners in his cabinet is a promised kept. Mohammed said this when he sworn-in two additional female commissioners to replace those that resigned from the cabinet. Mohammed who also sworn-in three permanent commissioners of the State Independent Electoral Commission, said: “Today to me is promise fulfilled in terms of gender participation in participatory democracy.
“The two commissioners are to replace the vacant (portfolios) in the cabinet and incidentally as for our promise to women folks, we are bringing gender equity into the cabinet. We are replacing the vacancies with tested technocrats and some of the best ladies we have in the state.” The newly appointed commissioners include; Hon. Maryam Bagel for Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Dr. Asma’u Giade for Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
He urged the appointed new permanent commissioners in the State Independent Electoral Commission to join hands with their colleagues in the Commission and to conduct themselves with a lot of integrity and fairness to ensure credible and acceptable forthcoming local governments elections. The sworn in permanent commissioners for the State Independent Electoral Commission are; Adamu Zakari, Abdulmalik Wakili and Dauda Gayus.
