After the death of Iran’s top commander Qasem Soleimani that happened early last week, Iran government said it will retaliate. Barely a week now two sites that house US troops have been targeted. The al- Asad air base in western Iraq was hit by at least six rockets.

It is still unclear if there is any casualties or loss of property. This will be known once the facts on the ground are established. The US has around 5,000 troops in Iraq.

‘’The US has not chosen path of de-escalation’’ said the Iran’s foreign minister . They have sent rude messages to us and they have refused to withdraw their troops from Iraq.

This is a revenge game. After the military base was struck by missiles in Iraq, Saeed Jalili one of Iran’s supreme leader tweeted a photo of Iran’s flag just as President Trump tweeted a photo of the American flag after the drone attack that killed Soleimani.

Iran government believe Qasem Soleimani did not deserve such a fate. They want to put Trump on tough spot and make him a one term president come Nov 2020 just as it happened in 1979 where hostage crisis made Jimmy carter a one term president.
