The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has said that the digital economy is a knowledgebase economy, so there is a need for Nigerians to leverage its existing natural resources to build on its knowledge-based economy as the Nigeria’s population is mainly dominated by youth which makes it naturally a population of digital natives.
He made it known as the Guest Lecturer at the 3rd, 4th and 5th Pre-Convocation Lecture of Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, on the topic “The Role of Digital Economy for National Economic Development“ on Friday.
According to him “Nigeria’s population is mainly dominated by youth which makes it naturally a population of digital natives. It is very easy for our children today to navigate our mobile devices as they easily adapt to the technology involved naturally.
He said digital technologies are not just about the economy entirely, but also how peopy live their lives today. “In the era of the digital economy, it’s not about the number of your certificates but the number of skills you have acquired.
“The likes of Jeffrey Bezos who as of last month was the richest person in the world, do not have certificates but have skills that use ideas to change the way business is done digitally”, he said.
He noted that Digital Economy is a new economy and should be one of the top priorities of any serious government. “When we get our economy right we will be able to face any kind of challenge. Digital Economy has changed the way and manner products are produced and delivered.
“The digital economy policy will focus on eight (8) pillars of development, namely: Development Regulations, Digital Literacy, Skill Development, Solid Infrastructure, Service Infrastructure, Soft Infrastructure, Digital Societies and Emerging Technologies, Indigenous Development” he said
. Dr Pantami was presented an Award of Excellence by the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, Prof Alhassan Mohammed Gani.
The Energetic and charismatic Next Level Minister on arrival at the Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, commissioned the new Library of the university. He was accompanied by Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, Emir of Gombe, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III among other dignitaries.
