Miss SA shows off Venda culture during homecoming tour

By Tatenda Marwodzi

Miss SA winner, Shudufadzo ‘Shudu’ Musida, showed off her Venda culture today when she paid the Royal Family at Dzanani a visit as part of her homecoming tour.

The pictures show Shudu dressed in grand traditional attire flanked by tribal women, lying on the floor in respect of the King of Venda and other royal leaders. In Venda tradition, subjects lie on the floor in the presence of royalty as a sign of respect. It is a tradition that has been carried on for centuries.

The royal family reciprocated by gifting Shudufadzo a “nwenda cloth” which is a striped blanket that is traditionally worn by women on special occasions.

All in all, the event was very colourful and rich in culture. When Shudu said she was going to represent her heritage she wasn’t joking.
