Nyovest: “Did you expect me to say ‘No’ to Zozi’s sister ?”

By Sihle Nyangiwe

The much anticipated season 16 of Idols SA premiered on Sunday, the 2nd of August 2020 on Mzansi Magic. The much loved singing competition faced cancellation due to the Covid 19 outreak, but not even an infectious disease could keep the competition down. The talk of the town was Sibabalwe Tunzi’s audition which got her a golden ticket. Sibabalwe is the sister of reigning Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi

The first stop was in Cape Town. Judges Unathi, Somizi, Randall, and guest judge Cassper Nyovest were impressed with the wealth of talent and excitement in the mother city. Sibabalwe showed up to give the judges a taste of her ‘sweet voice.’ While her performance was short and timid, the judges unanimously agreed that she should move onto the next stage. The contestants will be taken to Sun City for theatre week.

Sibabalwe conceded that music was her passion and that she expresses herself with it as she was shy when she was growing up. Nyovest later tweeted that he couldn’t have said no to her because she was the sister of Miss Universe. This confession came after some criticism on social media with viewers claiming that she’s not that great of a singer.
