The Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun has revealed that his administration has reinforced its Sex and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response network by establishing a Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Incident Registers at police stations, and working out plans on setting up special courts for related cases.
He disclosed this when received the team of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) led by the Country Representative (Nigeria), Mrs Ulla Mueller in his office at Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday, he disclosed that his government has approved the payment of its counterpart funding for the year 2020 to the Agency.
According to him, “This will be the first payment in the last five years, despite the continued support we have continued to receive from the Agency in the areas of family planning; maternal health; response to gender based violence; population dynamics and education.
“Our Government prioritises population and gender equality, so we have taken serious steps towards strengthening our relevant laws and agencies. We have domesticated the Violence against Persons Prohibition, VAPP Act and inaugurated its Management Committee, chaired by the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun.
“I am extremely hopeful that as we remain one of the leading partners of the UNFPA, we can bring our set objectives to fruition, especially as we partner with genuine individual and corporate bodies. So this is a call to all well-meaning intending partners to come forward and work with us on this mission”, he said.
