The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun has said that his administration is promoting tie and dye known as Adire, while top government functionaries in Ogun State now wear it on Fridays, and even considering adopting an element of Adire in the school uniform fabric.

He disclosed this on Thursday while launching the Adire Ogun Digital Marketplace at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, with the Hon. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in attendance, towards expanding the value chain of dye makers, fabric producers, Adire makers, marketers, distributors and end users.

Governor Abiodun called on the Minister to use his good offices to promote Adire at the National level, by probably replicating the State Friday tradition for national events, foreign missions and athletics, while Lai Mohammed commended the Governor for making efforts to showcase Adire on the global scene in line with the Federal Government’s diversification policy.

“Also, on the digital platform which will not only project Ogun State to the global market, but also generate employment and alleviate poverty. Already, our Government has enrolled over 200 participants in the Adire value chain on the portal. It is projected that if each of the eventual 2,000 participants impacts another 4 or 5 people, 8,000 to 10,000 jobs would have been created and more end users will definitely be reached globally”, the Governor said.

He therefore urged all stakeholders, particularly private sector investors, to take advantage of the new Adire Ogun Digital Marketplace by intensifying collaboration with the government in the development of arts, culture and tourism in Ogun State and indeed Nigeria, as his Administration continues to give needed attention to the Itoku and Asero Adire Markets in Abeokuta and the liaison offices all over.
