SA Idols co-executive producer and host Proverb, real name Tebogo Thekiso got down and real on the MacG podcast when he opened up about his suicide attempt.

Proverb, who had a successful 15-year music career releasing 5 incredible albums fell apart in 2015 after splitting from ex-wife Onalerona Moreo over cheating allegations. The split was very public and the tabloids were having a field day plunging the rapper into further depression.

“I tried it but it didn’t work,” he said reliving the day he tried to take his life. Fortunately for him, he survived the attempt. Speaking to the MacG podcast, Proverb who is grateful for opening up about his story had this to say :

“I told everybody. I took charge of that narrative to dispel the myth that we are immune demigods. Nobody is all that. I am a human, I am flawed. So this for me was an opportunity to say we all are flawed.”

Proverb has since written a tell-all memoir, The Book of ProVerb, to share the ordeal. While he has revealed that he will never marry again, Proverb is now in a good space.
