Young Zama Khumalo brought the house down at this week’s SA idols live show with her own rendition of A Change Is Gonna Come.

Zama’s performance which has been described by the show’s producer as “powerful and spine-tingling” brought judge Unathi to tears, received a “Wooshem” from vivacious Somizi and a standing ovation from the crowd.

“Her performance gave me goosebumps,” said one viewer. “I almost shed a tear,” said another. Overall, fans agree that she gave a stunning performance. Her voice was not only angelic but she was so in-sync with the band it was a match made in heaven.

“When I leave this world I want to be known as Zama with an angelic voice,” she said when she joined the competition. True to her wish, she has done nothing but deliver. She is young and from a small town called Witbank but the depth in her voice could be likened to the likes of Jenifer Hudson and Whitney Houston.

“Zama is a gift,” commented SA celebrity Boity Tulo after watching Sunday’s live performance. Zama is quickly becoming a fan favourite with many speculating that she will win this season.

SA Idols is currently in its 16th season with 10 contestants left. The winner will walk away with R1 million ($60k) cash, a record deal and shopping vouchers.
