Zimbabwe Integrated Traders Association (ZITA) says the government needs to cushion Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and informal traders as the lockdown will negatively impact their operations which are their sources of livelihood.

The southern African nation restricted the movement of people and business activities for 30 days except for essential services in order to minimize human contact which is responsible for spreading the virus.

“We understand that the government previously advanced some Covid-19 Relief Funds to small businesses and informal traders, but the money is not sufficient to sustain them for such a long period,” ZITA President Robert Bhamu said.

“We therefore make a call to the government to provide finances to our members for them to stay afloat during this period.”

Bhamu encouraged members to utilize the digital space to conduct business so that they continue to operate without entering into physical contact with clients.
