Receipts of a 2014 email sent to entertainer Somizi Mhlongo by Hastings Moeng has surfaced which may prove that Somizi stole an idea from another creator.

According to the email dated 28 July 2014, Hastings proposes his TV show idea which he claims he came up with in 2010. I have had a TV show idea since 2010 but have not had the chance to try materialising it, he says.

Hastings further describes his idea in detail saying Dinner kwa Somizi is a weekly lifestyle and entertainment talk show that sees South African all round entertainer Somizi Mhlongo chat to fellow entertainers over dinner. He also provides a list of celebrities that could be featured on each episode.

The description is a shocking duplicate of Somizi’s current cooking show, Dinner At Somizi’s, which premiered on DSTV channel 103 earlier this year. Somizi has however never credited anyone else and claims he came up with the idea himself.

If the allegations are true, then Hastings has a moral case against Somizi, says TV host Kgopolo Mphela, however it is unlikely that the show would be cancelled unless there is a legal mandate to do so, he adds.

As it stands, the email receipts have not been verified and Somizi has not given a response to these allegations.
