HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF EASTER: Easter is mainly about the Resurrection of Christ on the third day of His burial. Jesus’ Death was a sacrifice for the sins of the world.A supreme price was paid with His blood for the remission of our sins. Though the secular society in the world may be erroneously and mistakenly confused as to the reality and meaning of Easter, there is no such confusion in the Christian Community in terms of Christian belief regarding Easter.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as the central belief of Christianity. The entire new testament was written in the light of this resurrection faith.(Matthew 10:28, John 2:19). It is critical to know that the first-century Christian community stands as the access to the saving event of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. At the tomb of Jesus Christ, some things happened which show desperation on the part of the wicked at preventing the will of God to take preeminence and becomes reality in people’s life.
The Chief Priests and Pharisees, having remembered His saying “that after three days I will rise” (Matthew 20:28, John 2: 19, Matthew 27: 62- 66). Those who are monitoring your physical, spiritual, mental, financial growth shall sleep all through your growth period in life in Jesus name. There was a great earthquake with the appearance of an Angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled back the stone from the door and sat on it.
The guards were terrified and became like dead men (Matthew 28: 1-4). Nothing can stand in the way of the Lord. Therefore, nothing shall stand in your way to fulfilling your destiny and entering into greater glory. Women of faith in the persons of Mary Magdalene, Mary, wife of cleopath and other Mary were the first to appear at the tomb, their action and attitude reveal how passionate they were about Jesus Christ, their Lord. They showed Jesus undying love. But the angel told them, “do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified, He is not here; for He is riesn, as He said” (Matthew 28: 5-6).
The angel said to them in Matthew 28: 7 “And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee, there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you, says the angel of the Lord. And they left the grave side with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word. This is instructing the women to take to evangelical ministry. Where were the men-disciples. At that material time, the women-disciples exemplified a great and undying love for Jesus.
(Matthew 27: 9-10). Living the spirit of Easter. According to the Bible, Jesus’ Death was a perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world- (Hebrew 10: 1-18, 14-24, 5: 5-10) for He was sinless– (John 3: 5) but His resurrection represents something more spiritual; the potential for rebirth, salvation and renewal of faith. In order to have a great spiritual experience of the Easter, we must deal terribly, ruthlessly with our sins.
The Easter celebration is preceded by Lent, a time of abstinence and penance, the Easter vigil (as organised by CSMC Sabo Oko Oba, every Lenten season) and the sacrament of confession. The spectacular thing occur through the Lent, (a season of shedding bad and inglorious habits and resisting temptations) is that expositions and commentaries are run on various aspects of sin that the Bible enjoins us to stamp out from our earthly lives ( Galatians 5:19-21).
This is necessary to redirect the conduct of Christians, to open their consciousness to the grievous and perilous impact of such sinful acts on their lives. Easter is the perfect opportunity for Christians to recommit to their belief and Christian faith. The about presents to us that Easter is not about partying, clubbing, pastel-colored decorations, picnicking, visiting amusement parks, badagry beach and kid’s games. Easter definitely and decisively calls for purposeful sober reflection among observant Christians on their earthly behavior and conduct to decipher aspect of their lives for which some changes need to be done. Easter is a pretty serious event/holiday. It celebrates Christian belief in the divine power of Jesus and the hope of having eternal life.
The Significance of the resurrection: Resurrection proves that salvation is real for all faithful Christians/Believers all over the world with the hope of resurrecting someday. Resurrection gives credence, authenticity and reality to the Christian faith- 1 Corinthians 15:14-15. Resurrection institutes the belief that there is Eternal life after death.
Conclusion :Resurrection is the greatest event in human life and without it,there is no salvation, victory over sin and no eternal life. Humanity will therefore rigmarole on the peripheral of materialism. I urge you all to mirror your lives on the biblical precepts and principles, intently to identify areas of your lives that you need to make some changes to give meaning to Easter, resurrection of Jesus Christ in your lives.
