Sudan clashes: UN calls to end fighting with 50,000 displaced

The United Nations (UN) has called to bring an end to fighting over the clashes in West Darfur, Sudan, escalating inter-communal violence which resulted in scores of deaths and injuries in the country.

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres who made this appeal in a statement released by his spokesman on Sunday, expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

According to the statement, the clashes have caused deaths and injuries, the displacement of nearly 50,000 people and the destruction of property, while called on the Sudanese authorities to expend all efforts to de-escalate the situation.

The UN Secretary General also called on the authorities to restore law and order and ensure the protection of civilians, in accordance with the Government’s National Plan for Civilian Protection.
