Ogun State Government has presented house and cash awards to three teachers towards encouraging outstanding service in commemoration of the 2020 World Teachers Day. The presentation was made by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the event held in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday, while felicitating with all teachers in Ogun State, especially through the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and other Teacher Unions and Associations who have consistently protected the interest of teachers.
According to Governor Abiodun, “As the son of a teacher myself, I am aware of the great responsibilities that come with being a teacher or being related to one. So I am glad that today provides us the opportunity to consider issues affecting our teachers, especially as they continue teaching in this COVID-19 era. “The fortunate irony here is that the need to sustain the teaching-learning process since our economy got affected in Q1 2020 has brought remarkable reforms to teacher welfare and the Education sector, complementing our planned efforts”, he said.
He added that Ogun State was not caught unawares. “Since May 2019, we have: Approved the 2016, 2017 promotion backlog of over 10,000 teachers, Renovated school infrastructure under the Yellow Roof Project; Advanced the recruitment process of 1,655 graduate teachers; Approved career elongation for primary school teachers to GL15. “Sworn Principals-General and Headmasters-General into office; Digitised the teaching learning process, with the introduction of ICT facilities and televised classes. As we celebrate our teachers today, I call on them to kindly inculcate in the children positive values, and protect their rights, most professionally”, he said.
