Race enthusiasts will be glad to know that one of Africa’s best races, the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon, has not been cancelled but is going virtual.

In a statement released yesterday, event organisers will be “working with one of the most sophisticated, interactive virtual timing systems in the world” for the 42km, 21km, 10.5km relay and 7.5km events.

The marathon has historically been held every July at the majestic Victoria Falls town of Zimbabwe. However due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was rescheduled to 13 December and changed to an online event.

While runners may be unaccustomed to the online nature of the race, event organisers have assured it will be very unique and interactive. Entries are expected from runners across the world.

More details on how participants can enter the competition will be released soon.
