Thousands of viewers have petitioned to bring back Africa’s first original Netflix show, Queen Sono. The thriller which premiered in February of 2020 was cancelled by Netflix because production could not continue due to the ongoing pandemic.
“We wrote a beautiful story that spanned the continent but unfortunately could not be executed in these current trying times,” confirmed creator Kagiso Lediga after Netflix decided against bringing back the show for a second season.
The show which follows the story of an African female spy had become a fan favourite during the lockdown and gained a 91% rating on rotten tomatoes.
“Queen Sono deserves a reversible decision on its recent cancellation. Please reconsider your decision, many loyal fans were supporting this SA classic, there was more story for sure,” said one loyal viewer Ishani Guha-Sheperd.
Ishani has since started a petition to bring back the show. A whopping 2.9k and counting have signed. The show’s leading actress, Pearl Thusi, has endorsed the petition urging viewers to sign.
