As the world ushered in the new year, Tokelo High School in Evaton went up in smoke.
On the 2nd of January 2020, the principal of the school was informed that the school premises were set alight. Firefighters and police were dispatched to the scene and managed to put out the fire.
However the fire wrecked havoc as 4 ICT classrooms on the first floor were reduced to ashes.
Educational tools and materials stored in one room were also lost in the fire. The estimated loss is R 4 million. Speaking to Media Bypass, Steve Mabona, the Department’s spokesperson had this to say:
