Self-proclaimed prophet, Uebert Angel, has publicly condemned the arrest of Sherperd and wife Mary Bushiri by the Hawks.

In a tweet published on Tuesday evening, he said, “I stand with Shepherd and Mary Bushiri. You cannot touch the prophets of God and be guiltless.” Angel then shared details of an organised march at the Commercial Crimes Court that will take place Wednesday at 8am. He urged all Bushiri followers to attend the protest.

“This season prophets are being attacked right, left and centre. It’s the plan of the enemy. Pray in the name of Jesus wherever you are for Bushiri and his wife,” he urged.

Bushiri and his wife face charges of money laundering for a sum amounting to R102 million (US$6 million). According to an eNCA report “Mary Bushiri was arrested at her home while her husband was apprehended while trying to evade arrest. He subsequently handed himself over along with his lawyers at the Silverton police station in Pretoria.”

Hundreds of Bushiri followers have gathered at the magistrate’s court in Pretoria where Bushiri and wife are appealing for bail. In 2019, the couple was arrested on similar charges but later released on R100k (US$6k) bail each.

The state has handed in an application to oppose bail and the South African Department of Home Affairs has issued notice to withdraw the couple’s permanent residency.
