Uganda apologizes for arresting Nigerian artistes

The Government of Uganda has tendered apology for arresting Nigerian artistes, Omah Lay, Tems and Muyiwa Awoniyi over violation of COVID-19 protocol in the country.

Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this on his official social platform on Tuesday, he said the apology came through his Ugandan courterpart, Sam Kutesa earlier.

According to Nigerian Minister, “Earlier today, the Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sam Kutesa got back to me to inform with deep apologies on behalf of the Government of Uganda, the release of Omah Lay, Temsbaby and Muyiwa Awoniyi.

Recalled, the Artistes went to Uganda to perform at an event titled “The Brunch” but got to know later that the organisers of the event sold more than estimated tickets approved for the show resulting in unexpected turnout of crowds.

The Artistes being oblivious of this situation, went ahead to perform as required and was arrested by the Ugandan Police after the event and were charged for negligent intent to spread infectious disease.
