US: Antony Blinken leads as 71st Secretary of State

The United States President, Joe Biden has chosen Antony Blinken to lead as the 71st Secretary of State, while Blinken was honored to take the oath of office on Tuesday 26th of January, 2021.

On his official social platform on Wednesday, Blinken said his career has come full circle, as he started at the State Department in 1993, and, today, he is honored to lead the Department’s women and men as the 71st Secretary of State.

Blinken thanked everyone that made this possible, his colleagues for welcoming him back to the State House. “We will revitalize American diplomacy to advance our interests and values in the world as it is not as it was.

“American leadership matters, and we have a unique ability to bring other countries together to meet the challenges and opportunities of our time.

“Together, we will implement Biden’s vision of a foreign policy that promotes America’s security, prosperity, and values and that delivers for the American people”, he said.

As part of kick up of office, he spoke with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marc Garneau on phone on Tuesday.

“Canada is one of our closest allies, and I look forward to working in partnership to advance our shared interests and confront our shared challenges”.

Also, to the Mexican Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard about the need for continued cooperation between the United States and Mexico.

“We value our bond with Mexico and are committed to the nearly 200-year-old bilateral relationship”, he said.
