US provides $18m to assist communities affected by Tigray conflict

The United States Government has provided more than $18 million in humanitarian assistance to help refugees and host communities affected by the Tigray conflict in Ethiopia.

The Secretary to the State Department, Mike Pompeo disclosed this on his official social platform on Wednesday, he said civilians must be protected from harm, and humanitarian workers should be provided safe and unhindered access.

According to him, “The U.S. is providing more than $18 million in humanitarian assistance to help refugees and host communities affected by the Tigray conflict.

“Civilians must be protected from harm, and humanitarian  workers should be provided safe and unhindered access”, he said.

Earlier, the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed gave assurance that his administration is working  tirelessly to restore Tigray after the crisis.

“Telecom and electricity currently being restored after repairs; infrastructure works underway and humanitarian relief provided”, he said.
