Earlier this year the Zimbabwe government set aside $52 million dollars for white commercial farmers. This is for compensation for structural developments done on land acquired by the government under the Fast Track Land Reform Programme. Now government has released $22 million dollars to 400 of the former land occupants. Each farmer receiving $55 000 each. Of the 3500 white farmers evicted, only 900 have registered for the government relief program. Mr Ben Gilpin, CFU director, said that the 400 that have received compensation are elderly farmers.
