World AIDS Day: We’ve saved 20m lives through initiative, says Pompeo

The United States Government through its AIDS initiative programme (PEPFAR) have saved 20 million lives, prevented millions of HIV infections and strengthened global health security in over 50 countries around the world.

The Secretary of State Department, Mike Pompeo disclosed this on his official social platform to commemorate the World AIDS Day, 1st of December, he said Americans mourn their lost ones and reaffirmed its commitment to end the global epidemic.

According to him, “On WorldAIDSDay, we mourn all those we’ve lost and reaffirm our commitment to end the global AIDS epidemic. Thanks to @PEPFAR, we’ve saved 20 million lives, prevented millions of HIV infections, and strengthened global health security in over 50 countries around the world.

World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.
