18 year old Zama from small town Witbank has been crowned this year’s Idols SA winner after a gruesome 15 weeks of live performances.

Announced at last night’s finale, the ecstatic Zama could not believe it. “I can’t believe it. I’m going home to rewatch the episode and see if it’s really me who won,” she said.

Her contender, Mr Music, had nothing but gratitude for his fans who took him to the top 2. “I fought, I represented black people, I witnessed the beauty of sticking on who you are. Thank You Africa!” he said.

As the winner, Zama took home a whooping R1 million (US67k) and a recording deal with independent record company Kalawa Jazmee. Her single, Ndizobizwa, which she released under the record label is currently number 3 on the charts and fans have been urged to support her new career.
