
Zimbabwe’s Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri has died. He was 65. President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed Shiri’s death on his twitter account saying: “I am deeply saddened to inform the Nation of the death of the Minister of Agriculture, Air Chief Marshall (rtd) Perrance Shiri, a longtime friend and colleague.
Cde Shiri was a true patriot, who devoted his life to the liberation, independence and service of his country. MHRIP.” Shiri died on Wednesday morning at a local hospital. Reports say Shiri had been hospitalized the previous day after his driver succumbed to CovidD-19.
Deputy Lands minister Vangelis Haritatos led the tributes this morning: “I have worked with comrade Shiri for almost two years now as his deputy Minister. He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated to our nation, a patriot and a nationalist,” he wrote on his twitter account. “I will truly miss him and promise to continue with his vision of making Zimbabwe the breadbasket of Africa once again.”
